Had someone told me that the strange men who showed up at my dorm would tell me that I was the most direct descendant of Cuauhtemoc, Emperor of the Mexica, present day Mexico, and that I need to come with them to the Mexican embassy for my own safety, I honestly would of rolled my eyes, slammed the door in their faces, and laugh. Unfortunately, my mom raised me to have good manners. To be honest, I truly doubt I would have believed them. Of course, the universe saw my life and didn't think I had enough on my plate as it is, balancing work and school, and then decided to flip my life upside down, adding more spice to my life.
My first thought when I heard a loud knocking on my door was that it was probably my roommate's friends looking for her. I had to practically force myself off my bed and trudge over to the door. Being my 5'3 short queen self, I had to stand on the tips of my sore feet to see who it was. When I peeked through, I was pretty surprised to see not one, but three men knocking on my door in suits, and my poor RA looking tiny next to them. Not going to lie, for a split second I thought that I got a noise complaint and they were gonna talk to me about it, but why would they? I've been at work all morning and just got back. All it took was my stupid mistake of opening the door for my whole life to get trainwrecked.
Well, my name is Veronica Citlalli Guitierrez Mendoza, the most direct descendant of the eagle ruler, Cauahtemoc, and his wife Tecuichpoch, the last emperors of Mexico. And this is the story of how I went from being a broke college student to a member of the newest royal family in the world.
