Eerie. The night was black as pitch, and it was eerie. Creaking chains and chirping crickets were the only sounds in the ominous darkness. That, and laughter. Thigh-high sock covered legs pump higher on the rickety swing set, getting closer to the stars each second, but never quite there. Swings creaked, laughter squeaked, blood staining the mulch below. A glitter in the darkness. Higher, faster, farther from the Crimson disaster he's left in his wake. His efforts are in vain, though, as he can never go all the way around. Always forced to swoop back down from his high, back down to rock bottom. In the distance, police sirens start up, his laughter dies down, and then, silence. (Or, the one based off of Melanie Martinez's "Mad Hatter", in which Dan is a bit of a pastel psycho and Phil seems to drag himself into the mess that results.)

The world turns into anarchy as it is discovered that the sun has randomly started dying. Millions and millions of people panic as they prepare for the end of the world. Hope begins to become compromised as they watch the earth become darker and colder. The government however, came more prepared for such an event. 20 starships were constructed strictly to obtain 3/4 of the world's population. The other 1/4 unfortunately, would be left to live in anarchy as they watched the skies grow empty and cold. Dan and Phil, stand between it all, along with everyone else in the world they all ask the same question: What if I'm left behind?

Dan is struggling with his self confidence. Well, let's be honest. Dan has no self confidence and struggles to face the harsh realities of life and the pessimistic thoughts and voices that inhabit and nag his brain constantly. Phil tries to help his friend to realize that he really isn't as much as a monster as he thinks of himself to be. These two friends embark on a journey of love, hate, discovery, and confusion. And will they even still be friends by the end of the journey? Will Dan's turmoil break apart their friendship or turn it into something more? Dan and Phil try to answer to the burning question, How to Help Howell? "Why do you dance?" Phil asks softly, not tearing his eyes away from the star's that shine above us and I don't know how to answer him. "I don't know, I just do." I reply. Phil turns his head to look at me and sighs, eyes filled with determination "No Dan, why do you dance?" He asks and I look back up at the star littered darkness. "To forget" I whisper to the stars. Dan has always danced, it's part of who he is. He danced when he lost his closest friend to suicide, he danced when he asked his crush and friend of several years out. But with his friend's lives falling apart, Phil going through problems of his own and Dan's family life driving him insane, will dance be able to save him now? Or is this the end of the line? (I won't swear on this cause I don't know, but I hope this story is better than the description)
