When the Machine starts giving numbers, then erasing them, the team is beyond confused. So they trace the trail, and discover that all of those numbers are alive and well.
Numbers that were statistically projected to die. To be murdered.
When the POIs investigate, they see that someone intervened before they could. Someone saved those numbers.
Then the Machine gives out the number of deadly government operative Amelia Lopez. And suddenly they have just one day to find the person in the world best at hiding, and this time - the number doesn't erase.
Because Amelia Lopez is the one erasing the numbers.
So when the person saving everyone else is in danger, who's going to save her?
