This is my entry for the National Geographic #PlanetOrPlastic writing contest, wherein 500 words I have written a short story that was inspired by photos presented to us.

The Institute for Cetacean Advancement quietly controls Earth, harnessing the intelligence of captive whales and dolphins to solve human problems. Dr. James Morris is their leading bioengineer. His best friend is Coda-9994, the genius and potty-mouthed hybrid sperm whale destined to be sent off to the ocean planet Ouroboros. With humans having rendered Earth's ocean uninhabitable, the ICA insists it's the only way to find a new homeworld to serve mankind's needs. But Coda doesn't want to go. He grows angrier at Jim with each passing day for doing nothing. Desperate to redeem himself in Coda's eyes, Jim finds himself tangled in a conspiracy to bring the ICA to its knees. But how willing is he to get his hands dirty? How far will they go to break humanity's cycle of self-destruction? The Pod centers around a young man's adventure in a place he never knew existed with the help of a beautiful woman who lived there. I am among the lucky ones to write an entry on behalf of National Geographic & Planet or Plastic. As someone who loves nature, I always hoped more people will realize the issues our planet is facing today which is why I am very honored to be a part of this campaign.

Visiting your local lake where you grew up should be an exciting experience. A chance to re-live the memories and remember the special moments you had. When visiting only a few years later, pollution has taken over and taken its sea creatures with it. Who's to blame? We are. Humanity. The extinction of animals and our sea life is real and happening as we speak. Lets make a change now . . . Before it's too late.
