As the rising population goes beyond control, countries begin fighting over the scrap of resources left, and nobody can deny that it's the high time to take drastic measures. So inhumane policies begin to rise, and the government comes up with what they call, "The Shearing". Its rule is simple. Once a person commits a crime, his entire family bloodline shall be hunted down and killed no matter how big, how sparse, and how difficult it is to track every individual that's biologically related to the criminal. Byrne Holland turns desperate. Since the Holland family name has earned its place in the country's Kill Queue, Byrne's life suddenly hangs at the edge of a knife. From being a cashier lady, Byrne has to take a steep turn and change her whole identity; has to adapt to criminals' ways, and has to be with the criminals and other wanted, for it is the only way left to keep herself alive, while she and the wanted Oliver plots out a plan to save her sister. But would Byrne and Oliver be able to save her sister in time now that everyone is hunting them down?

I felt the sweat trickling down my face, my breath was barely there. Lance was far ahead, his endurance surprised me, what motivated him to run so painstakingly fast every time? What... Motivated me? To someone like Asher Wentz, singing in a band and playing his trusty Fender is the greatest kind of therapy. Music takes the edge off. It enables Asher to escape from the crowding thoughts rampaging through his mind. The chaos is taking control. The troubles of his past are catching up with him and he's afraid that someday soon he won't be able to continue the fight. Battling with inner demons and sanity isn't an easy task. Words and ideas get lost along the way and there are days when the darkness creeps in, breaking down the walls that he's spent too long trying to build. Writing lyrics just might be the only thing that can save his life.

Samantha Andrews is a pretty normal sixteen year old girl, although maybe a bit weird. When she moved from Axileton's local school to Eastwood Academy a few weeks ago she hadn't been to sure what to expect. She makes friends with her roommate, Rebecca Maze and is content to leave her list of friends at that. But she meets some new people anyways, some good and some bad but new all the same. She also starts to get an uneasy feeling about the academy and the people in it. Is she just imagining things or is there really something else going on?
