Nathan Valentino is so, so tired. He's only twenty-eight, but his world isn't the way it's supposed to be. Sure, there are some parts that are normal. The bilingual banter with his younger sister, Bella, and his studies are always a sense of familiarity. That's where his normal life ends. He's in serious debt to a powerful family: the Princetons. And of course when he had almost finished paying it off, it doubled. He now owes six hundred eighty thousand U.S. dollars ($680,000). Worst of all, the patriarch of the family, Lionel Princeton, has sent his daughter, Allison Princeton, to keep an eye on Nathan's progress. He now has a set deadline for his work. October twenty-eighth, next year. That gives him only eleven months to get over half a million dollars. But when Allison gets a room in Nathan's apartment, he finds himself spending more time with her than ever. He gets to know her outside of her usual calm, business-like facade. Maybe she isn't that bad after all. Nathan's so close to changing the world, and he doesn't even have his PhD yet. He doesn't know what he's missing, or why the Princetons need his work. He knows better than to ask. The Princetons aren't exactly the sharing type. The Valentino series is getting kicked off with a bang. Literally. Mafia families love their guns.

She really was, but when you have the personality she does weird lights in an alleyway often tend to attract your attention. Probably should have followed that common knowledge to never follow the weird lights, but then who does. Though honestly if Justinian has known what would have happened in that alley and who it would end up killing maybe she would have gone in, or maybe it would have made her go in faster...
