One thousand people from different parts of the world suddenly disappear and awaken on a mysterious island controlled by masked figures known only as the Hosts. Trapped with no escape, they are forced into a deadly survival competition.
The participants must take part in brutal games that test intelligence, teamwork, survival instincts, betrayal, and cruelty. Some challenges are physical, others psychological, and many are designed to push people into turning against one another. Death becomes normal on the island, whether through the games, starvation, violence, or betrayal.
The story follows Alice Baker, a quiet and intelligent teenage girl who initially appears far too gentle to survive such a nightmare. Shy, naive, and emotionally sensitive, Alice starts near the middle of the rankings, ignored by stronger and louder participants. However, beneath her timid personality lies a sharp mind, strong observational skills, and an unusual ability to stay calm under pressure.
After every game, participants are ranked according to their usefulness, performance, influence, leadership, discoveries, popularity, and actions during the challenge. High-ranked players receive better food, medicine, shelter, weapons, and privileges, while lower-ranked participants are left struggling to survive.
But surviving the games alone is not enough.
At the end of each round, the survivors themselves must vote for ten participants they believe deserve to die. The selected individuals are publicly executed no matter how well they performed. Some people vote out of fear, revenge, jealousy, or manipulation, while others eliminate anyone they see as a future threat.
Alice slowly changes as she climbs the rankings through intelligence and emotional understanding rather than brute strength. To survive, she must learn not only how to beat the games, but how to survive the hatred and fear of the people around her.
On the island, popularity can save your life.
Or become the reason you die.
