The red banners are asked by Nurse Jackson to befriend a mute patient. They want to know her illness so they sneak into files and do the most mischievous things to figure it out. This takes place before Emma left and before Leo and Emma were even dating. It's right when Jordi and Leo were fighting. Also, please note, the eye-typing machine in chapter 5 was invented before Charlie used it, so just don't think I'm messing time up.

Piper's just found out she has a brain tumor. Now her whole life is turned upside down. Dealing with cancer, the idea that she may never play piano again and she might have a thing for one of her fellow patients is just too much for any sixteen year old to handle. Emma Waco is a 17 year old girl with an eating disorder called Anorexia it means she forces her self not to eat. Her little sister tells her parents about her not eating and puts her in a hospital to help. Well she's there so finds to harder to eat anything or get any sleep some of that might be because of the people but you will find that out soon enough

Olivia is lying on the ground. She doesn't know where she is and what happened to her. Then she sees blood falling on her hands. She is lying in a puddle full of blood. Did she do this to herself? Or who did this to her? Her parents called an ambulance that brought her to a hospital. In her hospitalstay she will make friends and she will have a great time even when she and her friends have their own diseases to deal with.

Now, you probably are thinking that this is going to be some sappy story that makes you feel all wonderful inside. But that wouldn't be realistic. That's not how life works. Or at least, how MY life works. See, the difference between you and I is so slight that you wouldn't even notice it if I were wearing pants. If I were to wear shorts, then you'd see it. I've got no legs. Instead, I have prosthetics, which are durable enough for me to attend a world-renowned dance school. Since my three visits to the hospital, I've learned some things. Number One: Keep on looking on the bright side. Number Two: Enjoy life, both yours and others', while it lasts. Number Three: Hospital kids are real kids, too. They've just been put in extraordinary situations that they're making the best out of.

Emma Chota had it all. She was the smartest girl in her class, she was planning to attend Yale University, she had a loving family, but all good things come to an end. As the bullying at school became worse and worse, Emma developed anorexia and after two years of fighting the illness, she was sent to Ocean Park Hospital, where she is now struggling to overcome the eating disorder for good. She’s far from recovery. She still counts calories in her head and she even skips meals when she can get away with it, and she lies. A lot. She just doesn’t acknowledge it. She does have her boyfriend Leo Roth and her other friends to keep her mind off of it all. She’s treading on dangerous territory, though, and none of the Red Banders even realize it. Then everything takes a major turn whenever Emma’s assigned a roommate, seventeen year old Chris Benson, who is in the hospital for his bulimia. Chris sees right through her act and it drives her crazy. Initially, they can’t stand each other, but as they spend more and more time learning each other’s story, they just might find that they understand each other more than they know.
