In the fractured nation of Z-Rhodesia, the heavens once opened and burned paradise in a single heartbeat of white fire. Ten years later, the survivors are either gods or meat.
Kai, now called 1-A, is legally blind, officially disposable, and secretly burning with the last word his father ever spoke: "Pride."
Recruited as a Facilitator (child soldiers who "facilitate" the empire by dying first), he is sent to Black River Outpost, a prison-camp built over mass graves and forbidden grimoires. There, beneath blood-soaked soil, ancient Lozi, Bemba, and Tonga spirits still hunger for the living.
Together with three other broken Facilitators (a girl whose family was turned into officers' toys, a boy who speaks only to shadows, and a silent sniper who remembers Kai's village before it became ash), Kai descends into the underground labyrinths where the old gods and new devils trade in human souls.
To regain his sight, his memories, and the power to burn empires, Kai must master forbidden blood rites, bargain with ancestral war spirits, and carve pieces of his own heart to feed the Lady of Shadowgrove. Every spell costs flesh. Every victory tastes like rape, genocide, and childhood nightmares made real.
