Each loss, he carves another name into the notebook he carries everywhere, a ledger of everyone he could not save. To save Erika, Deon must face the Seeker Leader in a battle as much philosophical as physical. Korrin's argument is seductive: erase all suffering by erasing the conditions that made it possible. Deon's rebuttal is harder. Surviving is not winning, but it is what makes living feel real. Deon takes the last Galvanocharm. He has all five. The ritual begins. But Deon does not try to stop it. "Put that back right now!" he yelled. Heavily startled, she tried to set it back...and dropped it by mistake, this time not cracking like it did 100 years ago, but instead shattering into a million pieces. She and her grandfather stared at the decimated diamond. "What have you done?" he said ominously. Suddenly, there was a rumble.
