Me and my friends wrote a series of one-shots with Alan Arkin's different characters. Some of these are gonna be funny and some of them are gonna be more serious for those who want it... 😉 Some of the characters included are, Captain Yossarian (Catch-22), Lt. Rozanov (The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming), Jacques Clouseau (Inspector Clouseau), and probably more to come. ----- Also there are four different writers for this book, VM, LM, KB, and M.

"We could've had everything," Shane admitted softly. The confession hurt more than he expected. "A real relationship. A family. A future." After he was drafted, Shane flew to Japan to visit his grandparents in Kyoto before reporting to the organization. On the trip back, he stopped in Paris and met a young woman who was trying to escape an abusive husband. He helped her get safely to Canada, connected her with organizations that support women fleeing domestic violence, and stayed in contact while she got back on her feet. When she gave birth by the end of his first year as a professional baseball player, she made the incredibly difficult decision to place the baby for adoption. Shane adopted her. Her name is Sofia Yuna Hollander.

So, I'm trying something a little different with this new installment in the series, and I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea. As much as I adore M/M, I've always wanted to throw my hat into the very small pool of Female!Shane/Male!Ilya stories. I've also been itching to write the actor!Shane trope for quite some time, so I finally decided to combine the two. Another reason I wanted to write this fic is that, while I absolutely love exploring Shane's Japanese heritage, I realized I've been neglecting Ilya's Russian heritage throughout this series. I wanted to give that side of him more attention here and explore it in a way I haven't before. I really hope you'll give it a chance, and if you do, I'd love to hear what you think. There was something wrong with Shane Hollander. He had known it since he was young. Most people-most kids, in general-had different hobbies and interests. Their attention drifted from one thing to another. They became fascinated with something for a few weeks, only to abandon it for the next shiny obsession that caught their eye. Shane had never been like that. When it came to him, there was only ever one thing: hockey. Obsessive. That was the word most people used when referring to his temperament.

They got home and Shane continued to pull Ilya along, showing him his room and his toys. Eventually the two boys were playing in the living room and Yuna went to start dinner. She had the pasta cooking and the sauce bubbling on the stove when she went to check on them. "You can talk in front of mom," Shane's voice came around the corner and Yuna stopped to listen. "Father says here people don't like how we talk." Ilya's voice was not what Yuna had expected. He clearly had an accent. She suspected English was not the language spoken at home for him, but he didn't stutter or in any way sound unsure when he spoke. He was a good speaker, just with an accent. She hated that he didn't like his voice. "I like how you talk," Shane replied easily. There was a gentle noise of toys being played with. Yuna suspected it was cars from Shane's big tub of toy cars. Yuna snuck back into the kitchen. The two friends were so adorable Yuna could barely stand it. She wanted to burst into giggles in her kitchen, but she managed to contain herself enough to finish making dinner without alarming the children.

Falling into the Heated Rivalry rabbit hole was absolutely not on my 2025 bingo card-but a few Tarlos pages I follow on IG kept posting about Shane and Ilya, and well... here we are. I read Heated Rivalry and The Long Game in three days, loved them to pieces, and couldn't believe how similar the series feels to the actual content and emotional beats of the books. Ilya wanted to go home. Instead he asked the bartender for another horrible vodka. Ilya sipped it more slowly. His stomach was still digesting dinner, but even so he knew this should really be his last drink. He was starting to feel the effects. Not wanting to sit still anymore, Ilya moved away from the bar. Walking around the room without a real destination in mind and soon found himself face to face with red hair, curves and freckles. "I saw you watching me," the redhead said. This was the problem with gay bars: too many straight women. The guys hit on him. The woman hit on him. It was a burden being his hot in a place like this. Everyone wanted him. Such a chore.
