Melrose is a new girl in the neighborhood of Detroit; As the Square's love to call it- Slum City of the Round's. Here, Rose is oblivious to the division within the people of Detroit. Since she lives in the slums, she's of course considered to be a Round. One night during a bonfire, she meets Michael, who unknowingly was a Square. As time passed, they found themselves falling hard for one another, all while facing their own battles in their heavily broken homes. How did they grow to love each other despite the tension between their neighborhoods? Despite Michael being the preppy rich Square boy with high standards for a girl, and Rose being nothing but a "hood" Round who doesn't meet those standards? Being the only two left standing with the help of a Mermaid who is shunned by the underwater society, it's up to Mandeeq and Shermake to save their family and their village from themselves, and the mermaids who seek to take back their gifts.

Oh, don't forget a TARDIS, Time Lord, a few scots, and being able to travel through all of time and space. What's your end result? The two find themselves captured in an unusual friendship spanning many decades and locations, until they one day meet again in the present. As a strange illness threatens Julien's food supply and Iman's time traveling becomes threateningly unpredictable, Julien, Iman, and their friends may be facing the end of life as they've known it.
