Waking up in his own room should have been enough to make the morning feel normal. The same walls surrounded him, the same palace continued its life outside, and nothing seemed different enough to make him question where he was.
Until the reflection looking back at him wasn't his.
Prince Jeongin.
There was no explanation for why he was wearing his face, no memory that could tell him what had happened or where the prince could be. All he had was the certainty of who he had always been, trapped behind features everyone around him would recognize as someone else.
With two royal families under the same roof and no way of knowing who he could trust with something even he couldn't understand, pretending quickly became the safest choice. If everyone saw Jeongin when they looked at him, then Jeongin was who he would have to be until he found a way back.
At first, he thought the hardest part would be convincing everyone around him.
But the longer he stayed in the prince's life, the stranger his own mind became. Some things he shouldn't know appeared without warning, gestures came before he could think about them, and memories sometimes carried emotions strong enough to make him wonder who they truly belonged to.
Even the people he had known long before that morning started to feel different from behind Jeongin's eyes.

The prince he had spent years protecting was still the same person standing in front of him, yet the place between them wasn't. Every word had to be chosen differently, every familiar gesture suddenly meant something else, and the distance that had always existed between a prince and his guard disappeared without either of them knowing the truth.
