Hi. I'm Evelyn Blackwell.
Apparently I'm the main character now.
(Yeah, I'm confused, too.)
Here's the essentials:
I used to be kind of a villain.
Not on purpose - long story.
Read The Gate Between Realms. I'm not unpacking that again.
Anyway.
Some glowing cosmic orb broke into my house, yelled "CHOSEN!" like it was demanding a refund, and now I work for the Corps - magical law enforcement, but with more trauma.
My handler?
Reyna Vale.
Terrifying. Legendary.
Looks at me like I'm a walking paperwork emergency.
Together, we're assigned to the Witchlight Division, which handles the cases everyone else pretends not to see.
Our first assignment?
Suspect No. 1: The Pied Piper.
Shard-powered creep with a flute.
Kidnapping problem.
Definitely needs jail time and maybe holy water.
Featuring:
CJ (rookie marshmallow)
Aaliyah (functional adult)
Grimm-themed criminals and Draven Marr, the world's angriest tech goblin
If you like chaos, magic, crime-solving, and redemption arcs with too many jokes...
Welcome aboard.
- Evelyn Blackwell
Former Villain • Rookie Officer • Professional Disaster
Reyna Vale, Witchlight Division - clarifying the facts:
Evelyn was not "kind of" a villain.
She was an actual suspect with multiple pending charges.
(She disputes this. She is wrong.)
The cosmic orb did not "break into her house."
It phased through a wall.
That is different.
She was not "drafted."
She met the criteria for service.
(Yes, I'm also surprised.)
The Pied Piper is not a "creep with a flute."
He is an active threat with shard-enhanced capabilities.
Please take this seriously, Evelyn.
CJ is not a marshmallow.
He is a trained Corps recruit.
(Though... enthusiastic.)
Aaliyah is, in fact, the only functional adult.
No correction needed.
If you choose to read this case file,
please be advised:
I am not responsible for anything Evelyn says, does, breaks, or sets on fire.
