After watching the whole series of the comedy-crime drama 'Monk', I wanted to explore the characters of the Monk brothers more through this fanfic, although, you don't have to have seen the show before reading this. To those who haven't heard about it, 'Monk' is about a San Francisco consulting detective named Adrian Monk who has OCD. He has an older brother named Ambrose who has agoraphobia, but - to my disappointment - only appeared in three episodes. At the risk of writing a Mary Sue, I agreed to put myself in as the P.O.V. because I don't want the main character to be a thinly-veiled, embarrassing version of myself. Well, I'd also wondered what it'd be like if I met them if they were my age - how would I react to these two sad weirdos? Originally, it was a romance (I know, yuck), but I thought it'd be more lucid and realistic if I just tried to make friends with them. So, it's basically me as an exchange student at UC Berkeley. I complete a project (the nature of which is never really explained because it's irrelevant) with the odd but comfortingly relatable Adrian Monk and make friends with his agoraphobic brother, Ambrose, out of pity and curiosity, throughout the semester. It's a symbiotic relationship: I try to find my place as a foreigner in a new culture, so the brothers' friendships help me cope - while they finally understand what a real friend is like. Ambrose's agoraphobia situation is also relevant today, with generally everyone being in quarantine, so I want to somehow address that. It's also a reflection on my own social lens on the world, my impressions of America (after visiting it last year), and my college experience. I hope you like this silly little fanfic. You'll thank me later (I guess).
