This story takes place three years after the Serpents Shadow. So, Sadie is going to be turning sixteen in two days. She dreads her birthday because she always remembers that god of death and funerals, Anubis. She had been arguing with Walt so their relationship didn't work out. Meanwhile, Jaz and Walt are a couple but they didn't tell Sadie. Carter and Zia are very concerned for her and make sure that she's alright every now and then. Sadie is still the same person but she occasionally has some breakdowns. But, what if Anubis showed up again? Anubis had two choices for his punishment. Be killed and never see Sadie Kane again. Or go to war and have the possibility of getting killed. He obviously chose the second one. And then he soon shows up in Sadie's room on a Friday evening to explain what had happened...

She considered turning back to Brooklyn House but decided against it- if she had to stay cooped up in there any longer she'd end up murdering a person or two. She bit her lip, but then ducked into it, deciding that the shelter of Anubis's territory was a lot better then standing in the cold rain.
