"Murmur rose around me as I checked his pulse and breathing. Both were unnoticably low, maybe even absent. I yelled for someone to call 911 and get the AED while I started CPR." Take a journey through the views of a young boy with autism and savant syndrome as he struggles to become what he's dreamed to be: a surgeon. When he finally achieves his dream, it doesn't go the way he expects... NOTE: Hi all! This story is way old - like 2017 old - and my writing style now is much more refined. If you like this book, be sure to check out "Aftershocks," a more recent story of mine. Thanks!

Ella's life has been unorthodox to say the least. At the age of four, a horrendous car crash killed the majority of her immediate family apart from one brother a few years older than her. A year later, she was adopted but for years struggled through the foul side effects, both physically and mentally, of the trauma. Seventeen years later, at the age of 21, Ella plans a girls holiday away back to England with a few friends, but the trip quickly turns sour when the girls discover an uninhabitable island - with their own residence. There was something about this island that Ella couldn't shake, but reluctantly leaves the island, and her only brother, behind. Joe has always isolated himself from everyone, although it was through choice. Joe was considered one of the "popular" kids - but only preferred to hang around his true friend. On his 21st, Joe is hired by a secret base for people with mind powers, or Savants. A few months into work, a new girl joins the base. Rumours have it, she's the adopted sister of one of bosses. However, an extreme threat placed against the two causes them to flee back down to Cornwall, and they find out more about themselves then they originally intended. They both find out a secret that will hold them together, but might end up killing them both.

An essay I have long intended, but hesitated to write. Involves specific, ill-understood ways in which my neuro-atypical mind manifests its different talents and shortcomings, and where, as well as how I see something of the same combinations reflected in the two rather more famous and accomplished figures pictured. Please note, I make no claim whatsoever to Einstein's genius, and would never willingly be associated with Mozart's degeneracy. FIRST, ME To get that out of the way Of relevance to this essay is that I am somewhat neuro-atypical. I was very late diagnosed as autistic, far too late to be of much help, as by then I'd adapted as best I could to compensate for my shortcomings, though it did give friends and family cause to nod sagely and proclaim themselves not surprised. I am also Hyperlexic, a condition often related to Autism. In my case I was reading and writing perfectly at age two, though I hasten to add that I did so with a two year-old's maturity and comprehension. Ergo, lots and lots of dinosaurs. Finally, in later years, following some very intensive self-examination and efforts to, in my words, 'build my own mind', I began, under circumstances then a mystery but now somewhat better understood by me to display flashes of what has been tentatively labeled Savant Syndrome, but which I have kept as far from analysis, other than my own, for reasons which may become apparent.

Woodpecker says the end of the world is coming, there's a dead body on a bed, an empty field in Somerset is somehow connected to a secret government project, and Samantha Brock is the only one that can discover the truth of what is happening and stop it, but then that isn't really the point. In the days following the death of her mother, Samantha (Sam) Brock goes walking in the woods. She is visited by a woodpecker who, speaking in her mother's voice, prophesises the end of the world. She tells Sam that she must discover the truth behind what is happening and prevent it. The impending "death of everything" acts as a backdrop to the personal grief experienced by the central character, and the three minor characters of the novel. Each is mourning in their own way, and each is unknowingly important to unlocking the secret of what is causing the sky to turn green and snow to fall in June. Ben Erwin is Sam's recently ex-husband and a journalist chasing a story about a mysterious government project, Stuart Levitsky is a prime number obsessed mathematics prodigy, and DCI John Geering is a detective investigating the discovery of a dead body in a forensically clean flat in London. With the help of Woodpecker, who appears several times to deliver important information to Sam, their stories cross and finally collide. As the emerald-coloured apocalypse approaches they are catapulted towards a dramatic ending with equally dramatic conclusions. I hope you like the story and find time to vote and comment - love hearing your thoughts.

Among the magi in the world of Danu, there are nine distinct disciplines of magic. To be blessed with one is normal, to have two is quite rare. But every few centuries, one is born who can master all nine. A Savant. These young souls are routinely captured, twisted and used as weapons by the nine Guilds or individual magi who wrestle control of them. A short and tortured life is always their fate. Jack and Myr, two magi unaligned with any of the guilds, find Damien before his discovery as the next Savant in Danu. Can they save him from the same fate and give him a normal life as a child?

Sayre is fully content with her life as a child, especially with her parents that she loves so much as their only child. She is an ideal childhood girl that spent making lovable memories with the people that entered her into the world. Of course, she experienced all the ups and downs of a child, until she became a savant. A fortunate or unfortunate savant, depending on how you perceive it, she instantly knew everything about the world around her, top to bottom, like a god's eye who knows everything. Just as much as she harnesses the combined knowledge of the whole world, it comes at the cost of alienation with the people she loves.
