In Part I: Stand By Me, Army JAG Lieutenant Kaci Maloney begins a new chapter in San Antonio, navigating military life as an autistic woman while carrying grief from her mother's death. Surrounded by family and chosen loved ones, Kaci and those around her confront old wounds, unexpected love, and what it truly means to let someone stand by you. Her father, Cormac, seeks connection after personal loss; Mick Scavo, estranged from his family, learns loyalty can be chosen; Kellen Maloney adjusts to post-military life; and Valencia Aguilar, Kaci's best friend, begins to reclaim her own strength. In Part II: Standing As One, the story deepens as the characters navigate the challenges of caring for one another and building found family. Bianca Maloney adjusts to life as a new mother while learning to trust again. Gomez Cordero, an Army JAG, takes on guardianship of his nephew and niece while confronting difficult family dynamics. Jesse Holland faces the legacy of early loss, while his mother, Tara Sorenson, discovers that love and new beginnings are possible even after decades of grief. Maren Scavo continues forging a life free from the expectations that once defined her. From learning to stand by one another to ultimately standing as one, these interconnected lives explore grief, healing, love, and loyalty-and the power of chosen family in shaping who we become.

Not being able to come to terms with how he feels, Shai pushes away his emotions and ultimately inflicts pain on her. Maybe Kira has not completely recovered after all.
