Doug Hewitt, 16 years old, has a deep and meaningful secret that he won't share with anyone due to his lack of trust in society. But when he gets assigned an English assignment where he must write about it, and if he doesn't, then it's summer school. So he knows he has no choice but to write about it. Those who know him become aware that something isn't right about him during an intervention. And he wouldn't share with them what it is. Mrs. Fuller sets up an appointment with world-famous psychologist Dr. Wright to work with him in hopes that he would come to convince him to share his secret.
