No one in town seems to be able to figure the new farmer out. She is a little too strong, definitely strange, but also beautiful. Sebastian is certain that she is just another person he will come to avoid, but she keeps showing up with her foxlike grin and little gifts. She might stare off into space or use her watering can at awkward times, but she still must be tired from overworking herself at her office job. There is no way she could be something else. Or is she something not so human?

Maya had learnt to believe that silence was safer than the truth. For years, she learned to measure her words, tiptoe around fury, and wear a smile that masked the slow unravelling of her spirit. But when the fear began to reach not just her, but her daughter's eyes-wide and too wise for their age-Maya knew she couldn't stay silent anymore. After losing her job and amongst the aftermath of a home in chaos, with nothing but a small suitcase and a trembling hand clutching her daughter's, she left. The farm was never part of the plan. It was run-down, overgrown, and far from everything she'd ever known. But in its quiet stillness, Maya found something unexpected-space to breathe, to heal, and to begin again. She rebuilt not just the house, but herself. And when she thought her heart had closed for good, someone came along with eyes full of patience and hands that only knew how to hold, not harm. This is Maya's story. Of survival, of strength, and of learning that love-real love-doesn't hurt, it heals.

During her first few days in her new home, she learns the hard way just how much physical work a farmer's life is, which leads her to meeting her very first friends in the valley--Maru and Penny. Maru and Penny guide Nova through the ups and downs of Pelican Town's complicated social scene. Nova is overjoyed by the numerous attractive bachelors in town, including Maru's half brother, Sebastian whom Nova has grown a particular interest in. But Maru and Penny's one and only unanimous warning to Nova? Stay away from Abigail. Abigail's warning? Stay away from Sebastian. Nova decides that moving to Pelican Town on a whim wasn't the last of her spontaneous ideas. As a writer feeling the harsh effects of creative slump, Nova seeks a way to regain some of her inspiration back. In order to break the chains of her writer's block, she decides that she needs more experiences and is determined to date every bachelor in the valley, including Maru's brother Sebastian. As she dates her way through the valley, she uses each date as an addition to her diary entries that she hopes to use to inspire her to write a story one day. When her diary falls into the wrong hands, she fears that her time in Pelican Town will quickly come to an end. Farmer Newo remembered reading their grandfather's letter. Without hesitation, they quit their job and moved to Pelican Town. They had hoped that trading their 9-5 job for farming would be good for them! A nice change of pace if you will. Newo had never realized what kind of torture would await them.
