Jonas Byrne, a young and talented pianist had a promising future ahead of him. He was gifted with the ability to write songs and play the piano ever since he was a child. His love for playing the piano increased after meeting Josette Smurfit, the woman whom he was to marry. However, tragedy struck on the day of their wedding and Jonas was left empty and hollow after the death of his fiancée. He died soon after and the piano he played became cursed. White Horses on the Bay is an 80,000 word literary fiction spanning two eras in one extraordinary seaside town. The main narrative follows six days in the life of Fisher Sullivan, a young grave digger and church custodian struggling to find meaning and acceptance in his isolated world. The unusual but true story of a famous opera star, now buried in the historic cemetery Fisher maintains, echoes throughout the book. Twillingate, Newfoundland in the spring of 1964, is the setting for the whirlwind of events that challenge Fisher to think beyond his self inflicted solitude. The late 1800's and the beginning of the 20th Century is the era of the opera star who left the same quiet fishing village for the grand theatres of Europe. Fisher Sullivan and Georgina Stirling live in separate times yet their need for love and their ties to home remain constant forces in their journeys. Fisher's grandmother, Norma Sullivan, awaiting her own death in Twillingate's Memorial Hospital, has lived through both eras. Her last days are filled with memories of the way things used to be and perhaps still are.

Music. Everything in my life revolves around music. That's just how I've been ever since I was little. Everything revolves around finding the perfect tempo, making decisions which piece to play when it comes to recitals and competitions, always following the score sheets or even finding the right person to be your partner as you try to make your melodies perfect. But then, he stormed into my life and I became his partner. He changes everything. He taught me that whether I'm sad, I'm a mess or I've even hit the rock bottom, I still have to keep playing. But I had to learn it the hard way. And I'm not sure if I'm thankful or not for it. But I always do remember the sound of a piano playing. Always.
