This is the story of a boy, a boy named Newt. A boy originally from the British Isles, plunged on a journey across the Atlantic and into the hands of WICKED, an organisation with only one purpose - to save humanity. --- This book is completed, but beware, it's not fully edited (not even the edited chapters tbh). I wrote it quite a long time ago, and I might rewrite it at some point, but for now it is complete. Just saying :) --- I don't own most of the characters, or WICKED, or anything from the original book/movie. This is my version of Newt's backstory, in which he's originally called James. It largely clashes with the fever code, as it was written before it came out, so you don't need to tell me that. Anyway. Hope you enjoy.

I dreamed of an ocean. I stood at the edge of a jagged cliff, overlooking a violent tide of sea foam, throwing itself against the dark rock beneath me. It sent up a spray of salty wind, misting the rough, yellow grass that dug into my bare feet. I rubbed my upper arms with clammy hands, trying to fight the night chill. Despite the warm, sticky air, the breeze cut through my thin, cotton t-shirt like a handful of needles. My forehead was drenched in cold sweat, my ears numb through my shoulder length hair. I didn't even notice the boy standing next to me until he spoke. "Did you tell them?" My eyes stayed glued to the stormy horizon. "No." A gunfire sounded, and something slammed between my shoulder blades, knocking me off my feet. I felt electricity pulse through my limbs causing my muscles to seize painfully. My vision darkened and I lost consciousness, but not before I heard the boy scream.

This is the new and improved version of my old book by the same name. I will be keeping some of the similar elements that made the old one stand out a bit such as the frequent point of view changes. Here are some examples of changes that will be included: -This will now be an x reader fanfic. -The main character will now be referred to with gender neutral pronouns. In this sequel to When He Awoke, Newt faces new challenges after being greeted by a group of survivors; people who managed to survive the Flare. But not is as well as it seems; they soon find out that one of the people in this new group has been bitten by a Crank. After bitten, the person was given a treatment that WICKED was testing out, and she has no suffered any of the side-effects of the Flare. Now seeing that maybe WICKED did find the cure, follow Newt and the rest of the Gladers as they go through cities, injecting Cranks with the cure and seeing them turn back to people. You'll get to see the story through Newt's, Minho's, and Thomas' eyes in this continued story of survival.
