A true story based on eyewitness account of a new york city police officer shot in the line of duty. The officer's bullet proof vest prevented him to suffer life threatening injuries. The investigation which followed is well documented with a human touch coming from a rookie detective who apprehended the first of three perpetrators ( criminals ) at scene. The names, location, dates, and times have been changed to protect the identity of those mentioned herein.

Firefighter "When I am called to duty, God, whenever flames may rage, give me strength to save some life, whatever be its age. Help me embrace a little child before it is too late, or save an older person from the horror of that fate. Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout, and quickly, and efficiently to put the fire out. I want to fill my calling, and to give the best in me, to guard my every neighbor and protect his property. And if, according to my fate, I am to lose my life, please bless with your protecting hand my family, friends and wife." Police "Oh Almighty God, whose great power and eternal wisdom embraces the universe. Watch over all policemen and law enforcement officers. Father in Heaven please give them the strength, courage and perseverance to endure the unjust condemnation, danger, and physical abuse to which they are at times subjected. We recommend them to your loving care because their duty is dangerous. Dear God, grant these brave men your almighty protection, unite them safely with their families after duty has ended." Ems "As I perform my duty Lord whatever be the call, help to guide and keep me safe from dangers big and small. I want to serve and do my best. No matter what the scene, I pledge to keep my skills refined, my judgment quick and keen. This calling to give of my self most do not understand, but I stand ready all the time to help my fellow man. To have the chance to help a child. Restore his laugh with glee, a word of thanks I might not hear, but knowing is enough for me.The praise of men is fine for some, but I feel truly blessed, that you oh Lord have chosen me to serve in EMS!"
