Thomas is a student in High School. Him, Newt and Minho are best friends since they were little, facing every life problem together. Teresa moves to their class two weeks after the start of the year, and without knowing why, she believes this year will be a whole different from the others. Thomas is taken by WICKED after the last city is burned to the ground. Held in a new area where no one is allowed in or out he is tested on and used relentlessly to produce a cure to the deadly flare virus, an after effect of the sun flares that have ravaged the earth. While WICKED uses her and her child to threaten Thomas, the two of them must try to figure out how to escape their hell, and repair a family that has been broken from the beginning.

Thomas and Teresa have been working at WICKED for almost three years. When a turn of events happens in the maze Thomas snaps and finally decides it's time to get out. As they try to decide on a way out, a plan practically falls in their laps. They will go up into the maze themselves. But do they really want to go through the process of losing their memories? Especially the ones they have made together.
