Emily Rose Tweed has always lived the city life with her loving parents. Despite their affection, she struggles with deep insecurity, feelings of abandonment, and severe self-loathing and struggle to change. Feeling entirely isolated from her peers, she withdraws into herself. Hoping the county air and a slower pace will ease Emily and lift her spirits, her parents send her to spend the summer with her grandmother, Widow Tweed, at her farm house, which happens to be right next to their rival neighbor's house, Amos Slade. With the new friends Emily is about to make, like her neighbor friends Katie and Haru Slade, and discovering the forest with Tod and Copper, her life will have a new meaning and change forever.
