Plot Summary - Bridge Keeper Phillip is not the kind of troll you hear about in stories. He doesn't roar, he doesn't frighten travelers, and he certainly doesn't guard treasure. Phillip is lonely. For years he has lived quietly beneath an old wooden bridge in a peaceful valley. Once, travelers crossed it every day, but time has left the bridge rotten and broken, and eventually everyone stops using it. The valley grows quiet, and Phillip grows sadder, believing he is destined to be alone. One day the crumbling bridge finally collapses completely. Instead of giving up, Phillip makes a brave decision-he will build a new bridge. At first, things go terribly wrong. Phillip is clumsy and has no idea how to build anything. But along the way he meets a clever fox, a watchful bird, a hardworking beaver, and a proud woodpecker family who all offer their help. Together they slowly begin to construct a beautiful new bridge across the stream. Their work is tested by storms, rushing water, and the challenges of building something strong enough to last. Just when the bridge is finally complete, a stubborn alligator climbs onto it and refuses to move, claiming the sunny planks as his new resting place.
