However, what begins as a tradition soon spirals into chaos. Kings grow stubborn, refusing to give up, which leads to horrific violence and widespread death. The desire for the Blood Throne drives these rulers to tap into dark magic, sparking a fierce response from the Eternal Order the religious faction of the Great Twelve who oppose all forms of magic and sorcery known for burning offenders alive, dispatches their elite soldiers, the Red Crescents, to restore order.
Meanwhile, in the realm of Farreach, a coalition of seven powerful magic-rich kingdoms, the gods are at war over the ancient dragon god Maghom, who has lain unconscious for thousands of years. This dragon possesses a flame that could destroy the world in one breath. Maghom lies in wait, anticipating the arrival of its true master, the Last God, known as the Runeweaver, to awaken it.
