Nico knew that Leo was his soulmate from the tender age of 15, the year they had met. He also knew that he wasn't Leo's.

It messed up his brain, just be careful what you do and say, Leo." said Hazel. After Nico Di Angelo's 14th birthday, he was sent to Half Blood High School For Troubled Boys (HBHS). His father was never around, his half-sister was sweet but had to endure the pain of taking care of him, his younger half-brother didn't understand, and his stepmother tried too hard to care. He tried to be normal but no one could watch people die and be okay. He liked only a few girls from Jupiter High School For Troubled Girls (JHS), which was right beside HBHS. He met Reyna, her sister, Hylla, Thalia, Zoe, Rachel, Annabeth, Piper, Juniper, Clarisse, and a few more he couldn't remember the names of.

In a world where every demigod at some point in their life grows wings, Nico certainly thought he has one of the shittiest wings possible. They weren't big, they weren't sleek, they weren't flashy, they were just...small. Ruffled. Black with the shoulders red and yellow. Basically, both his wings and Nico himself were pretty fucking pathetic. Everywhere he looks, there are people with better wings than him. From intricate hummingbird wings to grand albatross wings. Everybody always managed with wings better than his. And he sat alone, with his small redwinged blackbird wings. In a world where every demigod at some point in their life grows wings, Leo thought that his wings were certainly not bad, but not impressive either. They were the color of ash, average sized, and wrapped around him quite comfortably. The only problem was that his left wing was mostly broken. He couldn't fly normally, couldn't preen his feathers like almost everyone else did, and he couldn't even move it much without feeling searing pain. While everybody else could easily flap their wings and start flying, he struggled to even flap his wings once. So he usually sat alone, with his broken maleo wings.
