This is a 500 word story about a dog and a boy in Herculaneum at the time of the eruption of Vesuvius. It's very short as it is for a competition but I hope you enjoy it.

Follow Aurelia's last moments in decaying Pompeii as she runs to do one last great gesture of love that will forever be remembered.

After Pliny's mother and uncle died tragically following the eruption of the Vesuvius in 79 AD, he's been on his own. One day, as he is walking across the Forum, he bumps into the most famous author of the Roman Empire. It's Tacitus. Tacitus isn't someone you should argue with. He decides what goes down in history, with a single piece of writing, he could ruin your life. He loves the power he possesses and uses it in his advantage. He couldn't possibly be the kind of guy Pliny falls for, right? --------------------------------------------------------- He was walking across the Forum, head facing the cobble stones, when he bumped straight into someone. 'Mind your step,' he said angrily, not wanting to waste any more time. 'You're not supposed to talk to me like that,' an ice-cold voice said, sending shivers down his spine, 'do you have the slightest idea who you're talking to?' It was only at that moment I he looked up and his bright green eyes took him up and down. It was him. The most famous author that could kill your career with his pen.

I wanna hide the truth, I wanna shelter you, but with the beast inside, there's nowhere we can hide... Hesta Precidous lives with hyperthymesia, meaning she remembers every part of her life, including her previous life. She lives with knowledge that no other person alive has. Mount Vesuvius is due to erupt at any moment of any day. How she knows this, she's unaware. In her previous life as Eden Clarus, she remembers everything that happened, especially the pain she suffered when the volcano first erupted almost 2000 years ago. Eden was just 13 years old, living in Pompeii, with her family and friends, completely unaware of what was going to happen. Hesta knows that another certain death awaits her, but when, she'll never know until the moment comes. A story about where the true demons hide in the nature of this world.
