After Pliny's mother and uncle died tragically following the eruption of the Vesuvius in 79 AD, he's been on his own. One day, as he is walking across the Forum, he bumps into the most famous author of the Roman Empire. It's Tacitus. Tacitus isn't someone you should argue with. He decides what goes down in history, with a single piece of writing, he could ruin your life. He loves the power he possesses and uses it in his advantage. He couldn't possibly be the kind of guy Pliny falls for, right? --------------------------------------------------------- He was walking across the Forum, head facing the cobble stones, when he bumped straight into someone. 'Mind your step,' he said angrily, not wanting to waste any more time. 'You're not supposed to talk to me like that,' an ice-cold voice said, sending shivers down his spine, 'do you have the slightest idea who you're talking to?' It was only at that moment I he looked up and his bright green eyes took him up and down. It was him. The most famous author that could kill your career with his pen.

Pompeii. A wealthy city in Rome known for its fine public buildings and lavish private houses. But like all things, the shines, the bigger shadow it casts. This is the story of those who lived in the shadow, in the dark side of Pompeii. This is a story of slaves and masters and love and disaster. Lord Titus, a wealthy man known well in the city for his greed, cruelty, and keeping of slaves. Magnus was born a slave, had been all his life to Titus, Erasmus a recently sold slave to the cruel lord. These two men found something thought impossible among their fellow slaves; happiness. They found happiness with each other, first as friends, then as lovers. But Titus doesn't want his slaves to be happy, why should they? They have no rights, no freedom, they are worth even less than livestock. Titus decides it's time to put an end to their little fantasy world. He separates the two lovers, but underestimates what it is they are willing to do for each other. The cover art is not mine, all credit goes to the artist. Characters are mine, as is the plot. Content warning: torture, gore, blood, death, romance, gay, violence. #1 in pompeii (September 16th, 2021) #1 in vesuvius (September 25th, 2021)

"You know how, in 'Eat, Pray, Love,' 'Under the Tuscan Sun,' 'An Italian Affair' and all those other memoirs? Women go to Italy to put their lives back together." I said this to Jenny over our first gourmet Mac and Cheese planning meeting. "Well, let's go and have a delicious time because there is nothing wrong. Because we are happy with our lives, well-loved, and healthy." "Let's make it our plan," said Jenny, "to stuff our eyes with art, and our bodies with good food. Let's gain ten pounds." "It's a deal," I said. "Ten days, ten pounds" ----------- Thank you to my thousand readers-or peekers-who checked out my memoir-in-progress. Wattpad was a wonderful trial platform to expand on the misadventures first recorded in the blog, http://kristenandjennygotoitaly.com, which is still up and you are welcome to take a peek. I'm taking this draft down and polishing it from a solid midway draft into a delicious and memorable read about the unexpected feelings, brushes with death, and awakenings that unfold when you think you've got life figured out. If you like horses and hiking, pasta and paintings, shoes and shopping, fantasy and friendship, please 'like' the book on Facebook @10D10P. There, you can learn more about the characters (real people) and the beauty we value, listen to sample chapters, and follow my journey to publication. And sometime, if you've got a bottle of prosecco open, you might tune in to the Ten Days, Ten Pounds playlist on Spotify and imagine yourself walking cobbled streets with a best friend. www.tinyurl.com/10D10Pmusic All rights reserved.

A document purporting to be a new translation of four of Pliny the Younger’s letters to Tacitus, outlining the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D. and the subsequent banishment of both Plinies, with notes by the translator. This is a submission for the Spring 2013 Historical Fiction smackdown, round 4. The theme this round was ALTERNATE HISTORY, so a big chunk of the described events never happened. PLEASE do not assume that anything you read here is historically accurate – though much of it is, much of it is not! Words: 2830 Time period: Ancient Rome Video Selected: ‘Pompeii’
