Pressed against the cold corner of the wall, her drenched body trembled, whether from fear or the chill, even she couldn't tell. Her arms clung to herself as if to stop the shaking, her head hung low, dripping strands of hair clinging to her pale face.
"Didn't I warn you not to step out of this house without my permission?"
The sound of that deep, rugged voice made her flinch. Every syllable struck her like a lash. She didn't respond not only just because she was a mute, but also because she truly had no words for the man standing before her.
Her trembling grew harsher when she heard his heavy footsteps draw nearer, echoing against the silence. His tall, sinewy frame loomed over her like a shadow.
"You know what I'll do to you if I have to repeat my fucking self again," he said, his tone low, deadly.
Slowly, hesitantly, she lifted her head. Her golden-brown eyes, glossy with tears, met his glacial blue ones. The memory of what he had done to her last night flashed before her, and her heart twisted in anguish. The hatred in her tearful gaze spoke louder than any voice could have.
His jaw tightened. That dark, dangerous look crossed his face as he suddenly grabbed her delicate neck in his strong hand, slamming her back against the wall. The air caught in her throat.
"You think I'm a monster, don't you?" he whispered, his breath grazing her ear. The words alone sent her heart into a panic, for she already knew what horrors he was capable of.
His grip tightened, forcing another tear to slip from her eye. He leaned closer, their noses brushing, the heat of his breath mixing with her trembling one.
"Then tonight," his voice dropped into a menacing growl, "I'll show you what a real monster looks like... and I'll ruin that innocence of yours, Kaya Haiden."
