Have you ever caught a shadow moving... ...but felt like it didn't belong to anyone? Samuel has. He's been trying to ignore them for years. Shadows. Shapes. Creatures curled up in the darkest corners of the city. Lately, though, he's started to feel like they've begun noticing him too. Maybe he's just losing his mind. Or maybe he's already stumbled into something far bigger than himself.

A dying town launches a rebranding campaign that no one seems to be running. The billboards appear overnight. The slogans don't explain themselves. A diner waitress says nobody puts them up, and nobody takes them down. A couple arrives expecting ironic tourism and finds something closer to a live experiment. Beauchêne doesn't ask visitors to believe anything. It only asks them to stay. To notice. To participate. What begins as small-town decay becomes a slow, sideways unraveling... murals that feel instructional, civic programs that behave like dares, and a town that seems increasingly aware of the people passing through it. A surreal, slow-burn satire about American decline, anti-branding, and the strange comfort of entropy. Meaning doesn't collapse here. It rebrands. Entropy is a vibe. Decline tastes like caramel. Welcome to Beauchêne. You're here now.

One night, a young man misses his exit. What follows seems impossible. A highway that abruptly ends. A diner that sits without customers. Children playing games at midnight. A motorcycle gang that seems to haunt the stretches of the road. As he wanders through a landscape of dreams, memories, and strange encounters, his search for a girl becomes something far more dangerous than it should be. A surreal literary fantasy about obsession, loneliness, and what happens when your world loses meaning.

Rowan Mercer has always noticed things other people don't. The crack in a classroom ceiling that looks like a river. The exact number of steps between home and school. The strange student standing alone at the edge of the playground. Nobody else seems to notice him. Then one day, the student vanishes. Not just from school. From everything. Teachers don't remember him. Students don't remember him. Even school records say he never existed. As Rowan searches for answers, they uncover a terrifying secret hidden beneath their town. Shadow-like creatures known as Hollow Ones feed on forgotten memories, lost identities, and the parts of ourselves we hide from the world. Now Rowan must face monsters that erase people from existence while struggling with anxiety, depression, friendship, and the impossible question of who they really are. Because the more Rowan learns about the Hollow Ones... The more they begin to realize the creatures have been watching them all along.

Liminal lands- Legacy 1 and 2, final part Genre: short story/Young teen mystery In a city haunted by the past, Legacy Jackson is drawn back to her childhood after receiving a cryptic letter from her missing sister, Jamyra. Memories of their shared laughter and childhood secrets collide with the chilling reality of Jamyra's absence, leaving Legacy desperate for answers. As she searches through the remnants of their old neighborhood and the eerie halls of Lovelace Middle School, Legacy grapples with her fragmented memories. Each familiar sight stirs haunting echoes of what once was, and when she encounters a girl who eerily resembles her sister, Legacy feels a mix of hope and dread. With time slipping away, she must confront the ghosts of her past and unravel the mystery surrounding Jamyra's disappearance before she loses her sanity-or will she succumb to time like others before her? Author's Note This is only the second draft of the final part, parts 1 and 2 are good. I already have a long list of revisions, expansions, and corrections I plan to make in future drafts, but I wanted to release it before the Backrooms movie as a small tribute to liminal horror and the stories that inspired me. I'd also like to dedicate this draft to my students, whose enthusiasm for series like The Backrooms helped inspire me to finally finish and share it. Thanks for reading. - L.B

I had a dream so weird, I had to write it out like a short horror film. Cannibals, skateboarding on PVC pipe, and the most awkward dog moment in literary history. It's bizarre. It's dark. It's a little funny. You've been warned. This is a work of surreal fiction based on an actual dream. No dogs were harmed. No casseroles were consumed. And I'm fine. Probably.

"In Copperwood, the trees don't just grow; they wait. When Aaron disappeared into the marrow of the woods, he left behind a ringing sound that wouldn't stop. Now, with rosemary pulsing in her veins and an iron bell calling from the clearing, one woman must decide: what is she willing to leave behind to bring him home? A visceral tale of folk horror and the debts we owe the earth." Seven quiet vignettes weave subtle, creeping dread-no screams, no monsters, just the slow realization that the town itself is watching... and keeping score. Perfect for fans of atmospheric horror and slow-burn unease. What would you do if the ordinary started remembering you? Chapter 9 has now been added. The ledger has now been completed, or has it?

16-year-old Angela Hawkswell works and lives as an acrobat in one of the most successful attractions in Sunspot, Ohio -- Ms. Maisy's Marvelous Wonders. Her boss, Ms. Maisy, is more than a boss, but also a kind woman that Angela looked up to as a mother. One day, when Ms. Maisy didn't come to work, Angela visited her home only to find her dead, along with a book of strange writings and drawings of creatures. Now, with the help of her little-more-than-best-friend, Wendy, Angela is determined to figure out why Ms. Maisy died before the circus is shut down and they are separated from it forever. -- This is a work in progress result of a Call of Cthulhu tabletop roleplay that I play by myself (I'm Keeper and the player). I use various tools and tables to randomize events, clues, characters, etc. Do not expect this to be a coherent story. There will be plot holes and threads that are never touched on again. There will be inconsistencies. This isn't supposed to be the next And Then There Were None or The Dunwich Horror -- it's all just good fun!

A surreal, darkly playful short story about identity, hidden patterns, and the unsettling feeling that some places don't just hide secrets... they collect them.

Ruth steps across the line between conservation and use, consent stitched bead-click by bead-click, and learns there are only two honest choices: rust out or wear out. Quiet, intimate haunt-not gore but heat, memory, and the ethics of touch. Liminal, sensual, human-first horror. Content note: sensuality/consent themes; no explicit sex, no gore.
