For Alvin Ronald Jenkins, life was nothing more than back pains and aching joints. He was ancient, indeed, nearing seventy-nine years old, with a thin white beard and glossy, cataract coated blue eyes. He was getting so old, in fact, that every night he went to bed not knowing if he would ever wake up. Yet he always remained his sensitive, caring, and beautiful self. Alvin never raised his cane in spite, or his voice in anger. During the course of his seventy-nine years of life, he treated people the only way he knew how - with kindness.
