Original short story poem

In a time when women's voices were often silenced, two girls find solace in the written word. When Missy sends a letter meant for Oprah's newspaper column, she never expects a reply-not from Oprah,a stranger who reads it by chance. What begins as an innocent exchange turns into a lifeline, a secret world where love grows between ink and parchment. But in a world that refuses to understand, can love written in letters ever find a place in reality?

The darkest thoughts burdened in your mind written down onto the page. Sometimes a happy word or two can be thrown into the mix. Spoken word and poems of plenty. Love yet despair at the exact same moment.

Aug 2012, Shimmering white flakes The icy air whistles around their ears, causing skin to tingle and sting. Fingers and toes are numb, but it's a good feeling. Snug inside my many layers of clothes, nothing can spoil the overwhelming feeling of being taken back to childhood. The urge to make a snowball is all consuming. Every step taken leaves a fresh, crisp footprint in the snow, as if no one else has ever been here. Snowflakes fall gently from the sky, tickling the end of their little noses. Shimmering white flakes fall. Ice cold winds blow strongly. All that once was awake busy with their everyday things have fallen into a deep slumber. How the world once was so lively now has gone still cold and dead, but is just as beautiful and makes children smile. Winter and snow is a child's delight things dreamed of every winter. Sleds and hills, squeals and spills, waving, as the world rushes by. There is snow in the air, snow, and snow ubiquitous. Angels they make in the blanket of white, and tomorrow will remember how Snowflakes felt on their tiny tongues like magic to them now.

“Playing hard to get are we?” Harry murmured under his breath. Their faces were so close together and Mikayla could feel his agitated heartbeat. Her heart was flipping too and she knew he could feel it, but she wasn’t going to show any weakness at his charms. His arm was at the side of her head as he leaned even closer, his minty breath starting to hit her lips. Harry kept coming closer and closer. “I try,” was her only answer, driving Harry insane, as she flipped him around and pushed him against the wall. She continued, “But it´s hard when it comes to you.” She liked him, and she knew it. Mickie knew the way boys like Harry worked, and she knew just the way drive them crazy. When they didn’t get what they wanted. “What are you going to do about that?” Harry whispered, feeling small against her boldness and loud ways. She pressed her index finger against Harry’s lips, silencing him. “First,” she mumbled, getting closer. She knew it was working, Mickie smirked. “I’m gonna kiss you here,” she mused lowly, pointing at his lips. Slowly; painfully slowly for Harry’s sake, she started to lean in. Mickie brushed her bottom lip against Harry’s and then, to his dismay she pulled away. She continued as she saw Harry’s lip trembling, “Now close your eyes,” she ordered, and he obliged. “And then?” Harry´s voice trembled. “Then,” said Mikayla as she pressed her lips against his ear, “I’m going to walk away.” And she did just that. + + + + + A story by Valerie Gold and Isabelle Lovett.
