And as she kissed him, the clouds in the sky shifted; light fell from the sunroof through the ivy's heart-shaped leaves, casting speckled patterns of sun ray and shadow upon their heads and clothes and faces. The air swam with floating dust and a passing bee; the scent of foliage and herbs and Taehyun's peppermint gum intermingling with the stony powdery presence of the red brick walls. Everything was silent but for the rustle of leaves and their pounding hearts. But like every moment, this one ended. The clouds passed again over the sunroof; the bee settled onto a potted flower; and Taehyun pulled away, his face flushed and embarrassed. "I shouldn't bother you," he said, his hands falling to his side. He stuck them in his pockets and looked away quickly, his hair falling into his eyes. "Taehyun-" "I'll pretend it never happened," he said. "That's what you want, right?" [original fic; inspired by romantic dramas]

The ancient book about the past holds the future. Frankie is the key. In a time long forgotten, people are held captive by half human creatures. Ashra holds a secret close to her heart, and must discover the purpose of her gift before the oppressed human race is destroyed. An unlikely ally comes to her aid. Strangers bring her a message from a far off land. Ashra and her band of misfits set off in search of answers. Together, they find love, uncover mysteries from the past, face ever-present danger, and hone powers they never knew they had. Book one of the Shattered Time series, The Sound of the Stones-"Author Beth Hammond has done an absolutely fantastic job in creating characters that her readers will relate to, connect with, and continue to think about long after the story is done. Her world creation abilities are second to none, and readers will feel as if they are absolutely a part of the story as they are reading." (5 stars! Chris Fischer, Readers' Favorite) Beth Hammond's debut, The Sound of the Stones, delivers a story within a story. Modern times, and the ancient past intersect as the story unfolds. When Frankie stumbles onto a mysterious book, her world changes forever as she begins to read about Ashra, a girl from the distant past. Hammond has created a world that evokes elements made famous by the 80's classics such as The Never Ending Story, The Dark Crystal, and Legend. The tale continues in book two, The Rise of Fire, and concludes with Breaking the Bind. Frankie and Ashra are separated by millennia, by fiction and reality, but in the end the barrier shatters.

I inhaled deeply. "Okay, so let me get this straight. You want a random guy I don't know to move in with me for a month to see if he can be my future husband? And on top of living with him, you want me to have a date with him once every week?" Silence fell in the dining room. My mother picked up her glass of water and took a sip. My father cleared his throat and shared a concerned glance with my mother. "Juliette, dear." my mother began to speak. "I'm afraid you know him." Juliette Rosewood never suspected her blind date would be childhood acquaintance and coworker, Oliver Nilsson. Nilsson and Rosewood were never close; not even when he began working alongside her as a computer science professor at Yale. All will soon change, though, when Nilsson moves in with Rosewood in her luxurious Manhattan apartment. (This blurb/description is so bad, I wrote it in 2 minutes. Bare with me.)

(Sleeping Beauty, but entirely genderbent and set in its own universe. Inspired by both the Disney movie and various other iterations of the tale that have been passed down from different cultures through the centuries, but without the heteronormativity!) Many years ago in the land of Athain, a young orphan named Zella Amberwolf led a coup d'etat and became queen of the realm. The official story is that she saved the country from the clutches of a crazed, murderous king in the midst of a massive electric storm. The true story is much more sinister, and something only she and her closest friends can know and that her people can never find out. Twenty-three years after this "Storm Revolution," Athain is in the midst of a civil war between humans and faeries; both its Prince Consort and Crown Prince have disappeared, leaving Zella alone to defend her secrets. Meanwhile, in a seemingly unrelated incident in the neighboring ally realm of Redrea, two teenagers meet in the middle of the wild arctic woods. One of them is Princess Bryn Beynon, heir to the throne of Redrea, fearsome warrior, and alleged murderer who has been placed into temporary exile. The other is Talon, a boy who has never left this dangerous, largely uninhabited forest, who lives with his three eccentric aunts and claims he can talk to trees and animals. When Bryn and Talon fall in love, they don't realize that their story began long before either of them were born. Their destinies are entangled in bloody wars, dark magic, and moral grey areas, and the decisions they make together could cause the destruction of everyone they love and two entire realms with them.

Changeling noun: changeling; plural noun: changelings a child believed to have been secretly substituted by fairies for the parents' real child in infancy. This is a new word for Kadee Sphear; more than that, it's a whole new concept for the quiet college student. Faeries, magic, children taken in the night. However, "changeling" is a word she's soon to become very familiar with.
