I dont have any -professional- advice, but I have struggles with self-love, and this is how I deal with them.

this poem is about carrying the weight of not being understood and how the ones around you don't always understand that when you are struggling you're trying. you're never intentionally hurting them. but you both in the end are tired, tired of hurting and tired of watching someone else hurt.

"You've got to cool down on all this black lives matter stuff baby. You're fighting so hard yet these officers out here are still going to do what they wanna do. I'm not going to lose you at one of these not so peaceful protests. I know you care, but they'll get what comes to them in due time." "Tell me this, Meech, if it were you laying in a casket, six feet under, would you still want me to "cool down" on it? Or would you want me and all the other black lives matter advocates to get you the justice that you so graciously deserve?" He sighed, raking his fingers in his low cut hair in defeat as he plopped down on the edge of my bed. Though he knew I was right, he would never admit it, his ego would never allow him to. I stood between his legs and hugged his head as his cheek pressed against my stomach and his arms wrapped around me. My left cheek rested on the top of his head as his grip on me tightened and I kissed his crown of his head and released my grip on him. I headed to my night stand and grabbed my gallon of milk, took one last look a my discombobulated boyfriend, before blowing him a sweet kiss, and headed to the protest that was taking place near campus. It's not as if Demetrius didn't know what he was getting himself into, after all, we did meet at a black lives matter protest.
