Well, I've made the decision to take that original book down and give it a complete makeover!! Have you ever had those moments when you've felt like you're not good enough? Like you're just taking up space in this world? Or have you questioned your purpose and existence, wondering why you're even here? It's not easy to fight off those negative and depressive thoughts that creep into our minds. Life can throw us curveballs and it can be a real challenge to keep moving forward. This collection of stories begins with a family and grows with a girl. Set partly in Malaysia, beginning in the 1970s, these stories follow Kalyani, the eldest child in a hardworking family that runs a small sundry shop. Through her eyes - and sometimes through her own voice - we journey with her as she grows from childhood into adolescence and beyond. Her father, Balakrishnan, is a shopkeeper by trade and a teacher by nature, while her mother, Indumathi, holds the family together with quiet strength, warmth, and care. Alongside her younger brothers and sister (Siavnandan, Pariventan, Valiyammai), Kalyani grows up between home and shop, learning early lessons about responsibility, resilience, and the value of work. Each story captures a stage of her life, reflecting ordinary experiences - walking to school, helping at the shop, facing fears, and slowly finding confidence. These are not stories of extraordinary people, but of everyday lives shaped by love, effort, and values. Through Kalyani's journey, we see how family, teachers, and simple moments shape a child's character. Her story is one of learning to endure, to grow, and to move forward with strength and hope. This is not just Kalyani's story, but the story of many children who grow up with little, yet learn to carry much. Welcome to Kalyani's world - where small moments become lasting lessons, and every step forward matters.

To keep myself from losing track of: all the 2026 contests I've entered, all the 2026 contests I've volunteered myself as a judge (or let myself be volun-told into judging), all the 2026 books I've had to read as a contestant or as a judge, all the 2026 deadlines, and all the other important stuff, here is a book that registers all these 2026 things in a somewhat organized fashion. With occasional commentary. For the record, I am not Lady Whistledown, and I do not have all the gossip of the ton. Nota bene: Although other people are welcome to browse my public contest logs and look for contests, look for information about details of contests (i.e. you want me to pour you some tea), etc, these contest logs are primarily for my own use. I enter so many contests that I can't keep track of them without a log. I forget important details, too, including things like "Note to self: You do not get along with this contest host, best not participate in their contests." Like my 2024 and 2025 contest logs, this journal was never meant to be an "expose" book. I'm not exposing anybody.
