Post-abstraction Jax story.
Jax has now fully abstracted, with no grasp on his life in the Circus anymore. Or... that's what he thought. He opens his eyes and a blinding light stabs him. Where is he? He feels soft grass underneath his feet. A gentle breeze rustles his fur. He looks around. There's... other people there too.
The sky is a soft blue. The sun is hidden behind the clouds. The trees in the grassland shade areas of it. Other people are sitting at a picnic blanket, eating and talking. They look peaceful and happy.
Jax feels peaceful and happy. Nothing like he felt in the Circus. For once, his mind feels...empty. Like thoughts aren't at war in his mind.
Jax takes a deep breath and looks around. Under another tree on a hill sit two figures. They're too far away to make out, but their silhouettes are laughing and talking. Jax, curious as he is, makes his way up the hill and approaches the figures.
The figures come in to view. Jax's heart stops. They're both recognizable now. One is a tall green and white frog with a red bowtie. She looks at him, then stops. Her eyes immediately shimmer with tears. The other is a tall clown. He glances over after the frog does, and a hand goes to his mouth.
The frog speaks first. "Jax!" she cries, her voice breaking. She thrusts herself forward and collapses into his chest, wrapping her arms around him in a hug. "Please tell me it's really you."
Jax just blinks, tears starting to form in his eyes as well. "I -" he tries to say, before his voice cracks and he hugs the frog back.
The frog releases Jax after a moment, wiping a tear from his face. "I missed you, moron." she explains with a watery laugh.
"I missed you, too," Jax sniffles.
The clown steps forward, ruffling the fur on top of Jax's head. "We missed you a lot, man," he admits, glancing away before holding steady eye contact again.
"I'm sorry," Jax replies.
"There's nothing to be sorry for." the frog reassures him. "We're just glad you're finally home."
