Agatha Christie has a copy cat, or at least someone who is a fan of her books. Ten people are invited to an island retreat by a great uncle no one can seem to remember. Parties occur every night. Na miejsce zostaje wezwana Leonie De Vries, detektyw znana z analitycznego umysłu i ciętego języka. Wspólnie z lokalnym policjantem Alexiosem Skordą rozpoczyna śledztwo, które szybko przybiera nieoczekiwany obrót. Z pozoru zwykła kradzież okazuje się być misternie zaplanowanym sabotażem - ktoś znał budynek od środka, wiedział, jak ominąć zabezpieczenia, i celowo odciął prąd. Z każdym krokiem śledztwo ujawnia coraz więcej sprzeczności - tropy się wykluczają, a wokół Idola zaczyna narastać atmosfera klątwy. Autorka łączy styl sensacji w duchu Lee Childa i Dana Browna z kryminalną logiką Agathy Christie. W fabule splatają się wątki naukowe, historyczne i polityczne: Idol nie jest tylko artefaktem, ale też symbolem wyspy. Styl książki jest filmowy - krótkie sceny, szybkie dialogi, napięcie rosnące z rozdziału na rozdział. Leonie, jako główna bohaterka, wyróżnia się inteligencją, ironią i wewnętrzną siłą, kontrastując z chaotycznym, emocjonalnym światem greckiego muzeum.
