Emilia finds herself locked in a network of underground tunnels along with two million civilians when World War II reaches London. When everything inevitably falls apart, she must find a way to survive in those tunnels while confronting her past decisions and the person she has become, both of which come back to haunt her.
When World War II reached London and German bombers filled the sky, civilians were instructed to seek shelter in a vast underground network of tunnels, secretly built below metro stations by the government. Emilia, after surviving the first day where crowds trampled to death those who fell while trying to squeeze through the tunnels' narrow entrances, is left completely alone, having spent the last two years driving away everyone who ever truly loved her. In the tunnels, civilians were promised safety from the bombings and the war. But when that promise is shattered, limited resources, food, and water turn survival into a privilege reserved only for the fittest. Anarchy breaks out, and Emilia must endure starvation, thirst, criminals, murderers, scavengers, and even cannibals.
By chance, she reunites with Rose and Nicole, her two best "friends", who were responsible for poisoning her mind and manipulating her decisions. Desperate to survive, Rose, Nicole, and their families resort to questionable methods to obtain what they need. Once, Emilia was a virtuous woman with a happy family, but as more atrocities are committed in front of her, she realizes the person she has become. Will she complete her tragic transformation for the sake of survival, and how far is she going to go? How can she live with herself if she resorts to murder or worse? And how did she become this person in the first place?
