Story about "Hazelnut and her dates"

Eating disorders have been in the world for many years now, but how much does the general public really know about them? Do they know how they are formed, what influences society and family has on them, and that they could very well be strengthened from these things? In Women's Studies class, my professor asked us to write a research paper on one book from a multitude of feminist books and articles. I chose Perfect Girls, Starving Daughters because of my observations of society as a whole, seeing that many women and girls with disordered eating live in silence, and they are never treated. This is because society--and even the people we love most--encourage a certain ideal for girls and women of all ages that being thin is being successful, pretty, and perfect, even if we do not realise that they are there. In this paper, the nature of eating disorders and the impact society has on them will be discussed, as well as the relation of this topic to feminist themes and Women's Studies as a whole, and the exploration of related scholarly articles to compare and contrast Martin's work.
