A while back, I posted a short story about a grandfather who rescued his granddaughter from the agents of the Queen. Everyone who commented on the story wanted to know more about the characters. I decided to write a series of novellas chronicling the lives of Aldan Beaverson(the grandfather) and Odessa Armont(the queen). Join them in their exile as Princess Odessa is forced to flee her home accompanied by apprentice mage Aldan and two loyal guardsmen.

"What the hell are you?" she whispered, stumbling back as the shadow stepped fully into the dim light of her room. "What are you doing in my room?" Her voice cracked, fear clawing its way out of her chest. Before she could reach the door, he was there-too fast to be human, too close to be real. "You can't run from me now, sweetheart," he murmured, his lips brushing the shell of her ear. His voice was deep, ancient, laced with possession. "I have waited a million years for you... only for you." His fingers dug into her waist, firm and unyielding, pulling her against him. "You can't leave me now." She gasped, her breath shaking. "Who... who are you?" Panic flooded her veins. "Please, leave. If someone sees you here-" "So what if they do?" he interrupted coldly. His hand slid up her spine, stopping at her throat, thumb pressing lightly over her racing pulse. "Let them see." Her heartbeat thundered beneath his touch. "Human blood," he whispered, inhaling deeply. "So warm... so alive." His lips curved into a dark smile. "You were mine. You are mine. And you will always be mine." Her knees weakened. "You're even more beautiful now," he continued softly, almost reverently. "More delicate. More tempting." Then, quietly-"Lily.... Kaira." Her breath caught. "You're wrong," she said, forcing the words through trembling lips. "I'm not your Lily. I'm just an ordinary Indian girl. I have a life. I have a boyfriend. So please... let me go." The moment she mentioned her boyfriend, the air shifted. His expression darkened, shadows swallowing his features. "Do not speak of that bastard," he growled, eyes glowing with dangerous fury. "You exist to love me, Lily. No one else." Her fear peaked just as sharp pain pierced her neck. She screamed once-only once-before the sound dissolved into a broken gasp. Pain rushed through her...
