This short story is an alternate version of the events leading up to H.P. Lovecraft's "The Thing on the Doorstep". In this retelling, told in first-person perspective by Asenath Waite, she details the abuse suffered under her father, Ephraim, and her ultimate victory and return to controlling her own destiny. It is the first chapter is a book I have written in which Asenath (she renames herself Aslyn, although I am still considering the name Ashlyn) is the main character facing a world-ending threat along with several other famous Lovecraft characters and a few originals. Furthermore, it was actually only a secondary project as she was intended to be the love interest of the main male protagonist in my main modern urban fantasy series, of which I also have one book nearly complete. As this section is standalone, I have decided to put it out there to judge the general interest level in my writing. Early on, it is very mired in Lovecraft and very archaic in language, as it moves forward in time, it becomes more modern, funny, sexy (to the point of being too erotic even), and written in the sort of language we use today.
