Boricua Stories

This eerie tale is dedicated to my Grandmother on my Mom's side. She was born and raised in Ireland, before she came to Chicago. She had a rough life and some of her stories haunt me. This was inspired by a chilling tale she heard back in Ireland.

Back in 8th grade Salina Suarez was deeply in love with her best friend Macy, and...let's just say things went down hill. Two years later at Chase Falls High School Salina is pretty much a loner. But when beautiful Italian transfer student Amoretta Rose comes to Chase Falls, Salina finds out Amoretta has a secret, a secret Salina wants to deeply figure out. Including her own mysterious dreams and events happening in her life ever since Amoretta has arrived. And what about the growing attraction Salina feels for her? Will she figure out what's going on around her and be with Amoretta? Even if death is the price?

I just needed some time to myself, so I took a walk and found myself on a subway. Made a new friend too, she helped me think on life a bit. I think I was able to help her too, in a way.

I should have fallen in love with her courage, Her sincerity and her flaming self respect. And it's these things I believed in, Even if the world indulged in wild suspicions that she wasn't all she could be. She was. And I was not.

Slam poetry, this is a letter for all those directors who treat actors who have an accent like if they had a disability, because they aren't American enough. This poem was inspired in a Puerto Rican actress who was always taught she had a very rough accent for directors in the East coast but in the West Coast didn't.

If heaven had Wi-Fi and an espresso bar, it would look like Pomería. An island off the Italian coast that no one could find on Google Maps. But it had turquoise waves, terracotta rooftops, and lemon trees that smelled like love and danger. The locals swore the place was blessed or cursed, depending who you asked. For the last two seasons, Love Unveiled had been the wildest reality show on television. Season one ended with a vampire confession under the tropical sun. Season two went viral for turning a Louisiana dating show into a literal exorcism. So naturally, the network said, "You know who should be our next Bachelorette?" Me. Zitalia Rivera. Yeah. Me. The host. The sidekick. The one who always said, "Girl, that man's eyes just glowed, run!" Apparently, the fans wanted to see me find love. And maybe, I wanted that too.

Rosalinda was like any normal twenty-one year old college student. A Puerto Rican princess, diverged in her culture, trying to make it out of the rubble that once was her life. Rosalinda saw what her mother went through with her father, she vowed to never love a man, so school it was. Everything shifts when she meets Emiliano, her best friend Ximenas oldest brother. He brings along a dark past, and intense future. Her brother, Luis, works for the DEA. He has been studying and tracking cartels for five years now. He uncovers something dark about the Sanchez family, and he will stop at nothing to protect his baby sister from them. Rosalinda must decide - is this the right path for her? Does she jeopardize herself - her future and freedom? For a man?

The story is a fiction about the biggest drug lord in Puerto Rico but in his daughter point of view. This is about her life.

Our rage is build on hope

Hi everyone, my name is Lorena Carreras and I wrote my true story that is "Cancer & Surviving Cancer" it's a true story because it happened to me. And the reason that I wrote this story is to inspire people that you don't have to be scared of anything, because god is with you every time and he will be forever by your side. My brain.

It's just another trip to Puerto Rico, Shariah. Nothing is going to happen. And Mom said this festival is going to be fun, not frightening. I don't know why I'm so nervous. God, I hope nothing goes wrong. "You might need some aftershave, Shariah, for self defense." My mom had said to me. And that's something I didn't realize that I would need. I should've just taken the stinking Aftershave. Maybe I would not have my first kiss stolen from some random, masked, tall, light brown eyed, tanned skin, Boricua Guy.

Writing about love, loss and friendship. Moving far away to college made her feel hopeless, but she found love along the way.
