Bright red hair corkscrewed out of my scalp and created a curly mane that fell to my shoulders. Green eyes above dark circles stared as if haunted into the mirror back at me, scrutinising my outfit. A short skirted, sleeveless dress in black followed the curves, or angles, of my body and stopped inches above my knees. I had just enough time to raise an eyebrow at the outfit before the knob on the door turned. They told me my name was Melinda, Melinda Van Dyke. They told me I was 23. I was told that I had a brain like no other, that I was a gift to society, that others saw me as a monster and had tried to kill me.
