Taking place after Captain America: Civil War, Natasha is on the run. She made a choice, and she must pay for it. What originally started out as a solo venture becomes something that she never would have expected. James Buchanan Barnes is back in her life, and neither of them knows what to do about it. Slowly, they make their way back to each other. But what happens when Natasha's unrevealed past, before she even met James, comes back to haunt her and those she cares about? This is a story about Buckynat, so don't worry, we'll always come back to that. But every chapter adds more. Black Widow movie spoilers become prominent in Chapter 15. I've always felt that there was something we weren't being told by the MCU in regards to the Buckynat relationship, so I decided to write what I thought was going through their minds during Civil War with a bit of a twist in the storylines as Bucky begins to remember Natasha and Nat tries to put the romance behind her when she believes all hope is lost. All characters and original storylines belong to Marvel and the MCU. I'm just altering them a bit to bring the Buckynat relationship ideas that I've had to life. After the Civil War chapters, there is a new storyline for Bucky and Natasha, so it won't be in accordance with the MCU events. Natasha Romanoff and James Barnes are captured while returning home after intercepting S.H.I.E.L.D nuclear codes. Their captor turns out to be none other than Keres Lebedev, an infamous and ruthless Russian spy boss. When they reach Keres' facility, the two are separated into different rooms. They are informed that if they reveal the codes, they will not be harmed. If they don't, there will be consequences. While in a meeting with James, Keres makes a deal with him. Natasha can receive whatever he refuses. If he refuses food or blankets, that ensures that Natasha gets them. The same goes for torture. James can refuse his torture and she will get whatever he doesn't, or he can take the beating for both of them and she won't be touched. James agrees to this and the deal is formed. Sofia Romanoff has been kept out of the public eye for years. Her mother Natasha has moved her around, and she's finally been taken to Avengers Headquarters while her mother and the famous superheroes fix a mess in Sokovia. Now 15, Sofi is tired of dying her hair every month and moving around so that people don't discover her true identity and her links to the infamous assassin turned hero mother. Being introduced to the well-known avengers, Sofi is brought into a new world of security she hasn't known before. As soon as she moves in with the other kids being protected at Headquarters, she and Lila Barton become fast friends. And Peter Parker, another moved-around kid, taken in by Tony Stark, makes her feel not so alone anymore. As the two bond over match-making the famous superhero group, including a possible match between Sofi's mother and the moody, dark haired Winter Soldier, Sofi's life has never been this good. Natasha Romanoff's life was just finally coming together again. She found her family, the Avengers. However, her life comes crashing down on her when Rogers brings an old friend to the compound to stay. The winter soldier. She finds herself struggling with the past she had buried a long time ago. What hurts worse is Bucky doesn't remember the past they had with one another.

Natasha starts to walk into the palace but someone grabs her hand and tugs her back to them. "You seriously gonna act like I don't remember anything, Natalia?" Natasha gasps breathlessly. She hasn't heard that nickname in a long long time and there was only one person who she allowed to call her that. She's too afraid to look up at him, afraid that all the emotions will come rushing back. "Natalia," His hand gently forces her to look up at him. Just like she predicted, all her memories, all her emotions from those days back in the Red Room came flooding back. "James," The name rolls off her tongue gratefully. just by a name, she's filled with childish love like she was all those years ago, safe in James Buchanan's arms.
