Immediately following the ending of S5 pt 1., Mike and Will navigate their feelings for each other, misplaced jealousy, and misunderstandings, and how to juggle them with what seems like the end of the world. Eventually finding themselves hiding out in an abandoned church on the outskirts of Hawkins, the forced break from their participation in the mission to end Vecna, and forced proximity to each other, reveals quite a bit. This is a longer, realistic Stranger Things fic that takes place immediately after the final scene of S5 pt1. originally written for ao3. More so Mike's pov but sort of jumps around! SLOWBURN. trust the process;) This one is for anybody who is also too impatient for pt2, and anyone who will also ruin Christmas if Byler doesn't happen. *knowing the byler water symbolism shown throughout the show is important context for this story! colorgate, churchgate, mwtfdydgate, maxgetawayfromthedoorgate, watergate, etc etc. **This was written before pt2 came out!!! The title says it all. I legitimately wrote out an entire persuasive essay about the beauty of Byler, and I don't regret it one bit. It's genuinely the best essay I've ever written. It's 1989 in Hawkins, Indiana. Mike Wheeler is starting his final year at Hawkins High School alongside his close friends Dustin Henderson, Lucas Sinclair, and Maxine "Max" Mayfield. They're the most popular group in school, and most people make sure to stay out of their way, until a new kid arrives: Will Byers, along with his sister Jane Hopper who also happens to be Mike's neighbours. At first, Mike and Will aren't exactly fond of each other. But when they're paired together on a school project, who knows what might happen...

this is essentially a wee book of letters that would have been sent if Mike didn't have such internalized homophobia (bless his wee soul) also forgive me if they say stuff like mate, wee, craic, cracker and fuming. it's the Irish in me 🙄 anyways maybe they meet up in California at the end who knows mate. but enjoy and requests are totally open if I find them cool enough!!!!!!

Two broken-hearted boys trying to find someone to talk to... ending finding each other. Will after his first love which ended with the worst possible way. And Mike whose his first love ended by the missing of communication within them. They are devastated and trying to get some help find each other and begin meeting more often making his friendship stronger than ever. And maybe after some meetings, they haven't ever been just the best friendship of Hawkins-because they were destinated to be more than that.

When Mike goes to California to surprise Will and El for spring break he instead discovers things about himself. As a teenager the struggle between love and friendship is so hard to find. Especially if your true love is your best friend... Contains some language, homophobic language in the chapter "bad dreams again" (This story takes place with no vecnea in Hawkins or need for El to have powers.)
