Every morning at exactly 7:16 he (Ethan) ordered the same drink - ice coffee. Less sugar - and sat by the window. Every morning she (ash) arrived two minutes later, headphones on, notebook in hand, choosing the table near the counter. Ash and Ethan noticed each other in small ways. The way Ethan tapped his fingers when waiting. The way she smiled at the barista like the day wasn't heavy at all. One rainy morning the shop ran out of seats. "is this taken?" Ash asked pointing at the chai across from him. He shook his head "No but I'm taken - by you, Kidding. Silence again--but this time it felt different. Rain poured outside. Coffee steamed between them. Ash accidentally left her pen on the table, and he slid it back to her without a word. She whispered "thank you" like it meant more than just a pen. Days passed, and sitting together together became routine. Sometimes they talked. Sometimes they didn't. And somehow, that was enough. Until one day, ash didn't come. The next morning, he waited longer than usual. 7:20. 7:30. Then a note appeared on his table. "same coffee shop. Same time. Just wanted you to know--I noticed you too." Ethan smiled for the first time that week. Some stories don't start with fireworks. Some begin with coffee, quiet mornings, and the courage to stay.
