They enlisted together. Same day. Same office. Same nervous jokes that slowly died the closer they got to the yellow footprints. Y/N, Cope, and McCaffey-three names about to be stripped down into uniforms, numbers, and expectations they didn't fully understand yet. Boot camp wasn't about who you were before. It was about who survived after. Y/N knew that going in. She wasn't naive. She didn't expect it to be easy and she definitely didn't expect it to be fair. What she didn't expect was how much distance could exist between people standing only a few yards apart-or how silence could feel heavier than shouting. Sgt. Sullivan was never meant to matter to her. He was a Drill Instructor for the male platoons. Untouchable. Unreachable. A presence she'd only glimpse across training grounds or hear echoed through the chaos of someone else getting corrected. He was regulation, discipline, control. A line clearly drawn. And she was just a recruit. But boot camp had a way of crossing paths that weren't supposed to cross. Of testing rules as much as it tested bodies. Of forcing people to feel things they had no right to act on. This wasn't a love story that started with choice. It started with proximity. With restraint. With everything unsaid. And somewhere between Guam memories, breaking recruits, and becoming Marines- Lines began to blur.

This is a fanfiction for the Netflix series BOOTS. We follow Cope and Jones on a mission that involves a 3-day trip around Lake Morrison as part of their bootcamp training. Jones has an injured foot, but Cope sticks with his buddy. As they face the time limit to complete the mission and reach a certain location, they do what Marines aren't supposed to do... Eventually, Sergeant Sullivan has to get involved. //The events take place in bootcamp, around the end of season one. The characters obviously do not belong to me in any way, but I attempted to honor their opposing characteristics, complexity, backgrounds, and beliefs. Also, Jones might share a bit of his backstory, just as Sullivan does. //No big smut involved, but there are depictions of violence and near-death situations. Oh, and some vulgarities, you filthy motherfuckers!
