The Wattpad Watchdog is a sharp, snarky, and thoroughly unhinged critical anthology dissecting the most gloriously problematic tropes of online fiction, starting with Indian Wattpad. Part literary criticism, part intervention, part comedy, this is the book that asks the hard questions: Why is your female lead always anemic? Why is stalking romantic now? Someone had to say it.

DISCLAIMER: These review/critique things are based on first impressions. I will NOT be reading the entirety of your book. My purpose is to urge my clients to learn something new about their story. (Though opinions may vary across participants.) Maybe your review from me will be the catalyst that makes you quit writing for a period of time. Maybe my review is the confidence boost you need in order to take that next step. Maybe my review will help you see your errors and better yourself. Maybe it will do nothing to help you at all and you'll just think of me as a turd after. My goal is not to tell you how to think; I am just a milk dud trying to do something semi-productive as I procrastinate away. Also, in no way am I implying that I am a superior writer to any of my clients, I'm just bored & have attained a decent critical eye on picking out "the bad", I think. We all have written garbage before (you might be writing one right now and have yet to realize it! Who knows-- let me help you find out!), this is just a process that has been done a googolplex amount of times throughout the centuries and the multiverse. This is not unique to only you. It is just a cycle, and you are part of it, which is why I am here to shove you along in one tiny portion of it. If you think that I'm a "rude bitch", all of this seems too intimidating, or maybe even melodramatic--I get it. To a certain extent, I even agree with you! You know yourself better than I do. Remember: no one is forcing you to request and I'll have less reviews to get to. 🤷🏾♂️ {P.S. Super depressed and poor so I'm prone to take breaks. Oops. Edit: On an indefinite hiatus if that isn't obvious. All posted reviews have pretty helpful info in them I like to think tho!} Okay, I'll quit the foreplay and get on with it. I hope you enjoy my services whether you request or not! (Cover done by yours truly)

Looking for someone to review you story? I'm here to help! Back in 2011, I used to critique peoples' stories, and really enjoyed doing so. It was fun to contribute to the community, read books, and give authors a fresh perspective. Fast forward to today in 2021, a whole decade later, and I've been considering pursuing a career in editing! I'd like to get back in the groove and get some practice in, so if you'd like me to read your book and give you some feedback on your work, drop a comment. See "Submission Guidelines" for details.

Yep, that's me on the book cover. Levi Jensen. Your average guy. The kind of guy who usually doesn't end up in books because, let's be honest, no one would fucking read it. I play guitar, work at a music shop where my boss thinks I'm invisible, and I mostly just vibe through life hoping no one asks me where I see myself in five years. Spoiler: I don't know. But as you can see... I'm not alone. The stunning pink-haired goddess clinging to my arm like I'm actually worth something? Yeah. That's Azalée. Or at least that's the name she gave me. She's French. Like, annoyingly sexy French. And yes-she has a katana. Like a real one. Not a cosplay prop. A genuine, "slice-a-dude-in-half-before-he-finishes-his-sentence" katana. And that's not even the weirdest part. She has powers. Like, real ones. Something about time loops, quantum shit, time bubbles, and other words that make me go "uh-huh" while staring at her lips instead of listening. All I know is: 1) She kills bad guys. 2) She looks sexy as hell doing it. Somehow, I got pulled into her mess. And somehow, we... yeah, we end up together. How the hell did that happen? You'll just have to read and find out. Good luck. You're in for one hell of a loop.

Edmund Gosse (1849-1928) was a prominent critic of art and literature in the late 19th Century. His father was a naturalist and was deeply committed to a small Puritanical sect, the Plymouth Brethren. His childhood was initially happy as they spent their summers in Devon where his father was developing the ideas which gave rise to the craze for the marine aquarium. After his mother died when he was eight they moved to Devon permanently. His life with his father became increasingly strained by his father's expectations that he should follow in his religious tradition. Gosse was sent to a boarding school where he began to develop his own interests in literature. He later gave an account of his childhood in the book Father and Son which has been described as the first psychological biography. At the age of 18 and working in the British Museum in London, he broke away from his father's influence. His accomplishments include translating Ibsen into English for the first time, and becoming one of England's leading art critics, specialising in sculpture. He taught literature at Cambridge. Later, he became the librarian of the House of Lords. He was also a collector of rare books himself, and Gossip in a Library consists of a series of reviews, some adulatory, others quite scathing, of some of his favourites. A few of them are already in our collection; others will be added in the future. Most are available as page scans in various places in the World Wide Web - see the list at the end of the book.
