As someone born and raised in the South Carolina Lowcountry, I've been surrounded by Gullah my whole life. But Gullah ain't just speech or stories-it's a way of life. It's in the food, the rituals, the rhythms of how we love, grieve, teach, and remember. Most folks my age probably got their first taste of Gullah through the Nickelodeon show Gullah Gullah Island. Ron and Natalie Daise offered a joyful and real glimpse into life on the South Carolina sea islands. Their work helped preserve something sacred. Now, it's my turn to carry that flame. This series is my offering-a new wave of Gullah storytelling for today's children and families. Though I no longer live in the Lowcountry, I still hold tight to the traditions, language, superstitions, and spirit that shaped my formative years. What inspired this collection? A YouTube video that sent me right back to childhood. One story. One voice. One memory. It unlocked the power of oral tradition-the way a simple tale could carry truth, warning, joy, and history, all at once. If you've never heard a Gullah story, I invite you to start here: šŸ‘‰šŸ¾ Gullah Tale - Chicken Dinner Money https://youtu.be/YhfL3JtEFp8?si=LF9fSud7Fws8bMi2 This series is for those who remember... and those who are just beginning to.
